Christmas Decor 2011

I've been meaning to put up some pics of my Christmas decorations and I am finally doing so. Inspired by Martha Stewart ideas and random ideas I saw on Pinterest, here are a few pics of some of the DIY decorations I put together. This year's theme was red and white with silver accents.

Ornaments make for super easy table decorations

Had these candles I'd gotten from Kohl's on clearance, also got the candle holders on clearance.
The fake snow is super cheap from Target, but the glitter they put in it is MESSY!
The fake pine tree garland was pretty cheap too - and reusable.
I also hung some of the garland with ornaments, but I'll need to take a good pic of that one.

Pinterest Inspired

Spending hours and hours on Pinterest gave me lots of ideas, but I realized I needed to actually DO something to justify the fact that I was able to spend an entire day looking at other people's creativity. So I tried to figure out what project to begin with... and I came across this little pin-of-an-idea: glittered heels.

Here's my own verson...
Before
And
AFTER!
Such an easy project too - just some Mod Podge and extra fine glitter (I recently bought a set of like 30 bottles of different colors of extra fine glitter from Micheal's that's been dying to get used). You'll want to use a good portion of glitter to really saturate the glue, otherwise it'll take A LOT of coats to really cover the shoe. I didn't want to use up all my glitter (which I certainly didn't anyway) so I used less than I should have. I had to do about 10 coats to fully cover the shoe, which (although easy) was very time consuming, since I let the glue dry about 70% each layer. Lesson learned. Since my heels weren't just getting wear and tear on the actual heel, I decided to just go for it and glitter the entire shoe... and I love it. I have a silver sequined dress that will be perfect with these babies!
